As Texas Guinan would say: “Exaggerate the world. Dress up your lives with imagination. Don’t lose that purple mantle of illusion. It’s worth more than the price of admission.”

Paramount Pictures must have had that quote in mind when they placed a purple mantle of illusion over the real Mary Louise Cecilia “Texas” Guinan and released "Incendiary Blonde" [1945].

Actress Betty Hutton puts on her chaps and spurs in this romanticized Hollywood bio-pic about Texas Guinan, a grocer's daughter from Waco, Texas who managed to become a constantly quoted, very boisterous entertainer known as the Queen of the Night Clubs. Along the way, she also finds romance and heartbreak. (Scenes from this vintage film can be seen on YouTube.)

Meanwhile, a fascinating documentary is now in production: “In the Footsteps of Texas Guinan.”
We’ll be posting updates on any screening dates, festival showings, events, and all things Guinan. Bookmark this page and check back.

Incredible as it seems for a woman who created the modern night club, there is no cocktail named “Texas Guinan.” This is a drink recipe that was meant to be.  It will be introduced soon.
